SSR Development Units That Can Replace UR (Beginner-Friendly Guide)

UR units are still the long-term goal of the game. However, when UR units are still at a low star level, such as 0★–1★, SSR units from the Development system that have been fully upgraded to ★★★ can realistically be used as replacements in many situations. This is not because SSR units are stronger than UR units, but because the game uses a star system ranging from 0★ to 3★, where star levels have a significant impact on unit performance. As a result, fully developed SSR units tend to offer more stable performance compared to low-star UR units.

After December 23, 2025, the game announced a new development system that allows SSR SP units to be upgraded further into SSR SSP, representing the next stage of long-term SSR progression. That said, since the SSR SSP system is not yet available in the game, it is still too early to determine whether SSR SSP units will be able to surpass UR units. Concrete conclusions will need to wait until the system is fully implemented and tested in actual gameplay.

That said, based on the direction of the announced system, one thing is fairly clear: the performance gap between 2–3★ UR units and SSR SSP units is expected to become much narrower. For new players or those who are not rushing gacha pulls, this is very good news. It means that investing in SSR units from the Development system now remains a worthwhile choice, allowing players to progress comfortably without worrying about falling behind.

NUGundam(SSR)

SS

  • Has a powerful range-5 weapon that deals high damage.

  • Still deals strong damage even when piloted by a Support-type pilot.

  • Has abilities that increase accuracy and evasion, improving overall reliability.

  • Comes with the “One-Shot Killer” tag, which many top-tier meta Units share, making it a very safe long-term pick.

Sazabi(EX)
Kimaris Vidar(SSR)

S

  • Its EX weapon has range 5 and applies Defense Down, setting enemies up for heavier follow-up damage—just like Aerial (EX).

  • Has an ability that restores EN every turn; when Vigor is max, it also increases ATK and DEF.

  • Has an ability that reduces damage taken from Beam-type weapons, improving survivability.

  • Comes with the “One-Shot Killer” tag, which many top-tier meta Units share, making it a very safe long-term pick.

WingZero(SSR)

HeeroYuy(SSR)

A

  • Has a MAP-type weapon, making it great for applying wide-area pressure.

  • Has a weapon that reduces the enemy’s DEF, making follow-up attacks hit harder.

  • Comes with the “One-Shot Killer” tag, which many top-tier meta Units share, making it a very safe long-term pick.

  • Heero Yuy is the best choice because Wing Zero isn’t strong enough to justify using a UR 3-action pilot, and his ability allows Units with the “Mobile Suit Gundam Wing” tag to attack up to 3 times per turn, making him the most efficient option when UR pilots are limited.

  • Being able to attack three times per turn makes MAP-type weapons much easier and more efficient to use, since you can better control attack timing and finish fights more cleanly.
